Did you know that there is asbestos in our drinking water?

"More than 19,000 kilometres of water pipes in Flanders consist of asbestos cement, better known as Eternit," writes De Standaard.

That there asbestos in our drinking water zit is certain, but depending on the location, the concentration is more or less. Drinking water is not checked for today asbestos. The drinking water guidelines still rely on rules delegated in 1993. Back then, there was too little or even no convincing evidence. However, new studies establish that there is asbestos in our drinking water sits.

"The danger of asbestos in our drinking water that increases the risk of cancer." EOS tells in its new issue of Thursday 21 April 2015.

Joke Schauvliege (CD&V), Flemish environment minister, told De Standaard that the pipes are being systematically replaced but this must be done with the utmost care. On the other hand, we note that things are moving forward at a tremendously slow pace.
